I Have the Power!

Some time ago, Matt and I were shopping at the cheapskates heaven, ROSS, when I saw gleaming from the shelves a box set dvd wrapped in shiny cellophane. It beckoned to me, and as I approached my heart began to palpitate with such force, I knew this box set could be only one thing. Indeed, it was. A rare volume of ten fan picked episodes of the classic animated series ... He Man and the Masters of the Universe.

He Man was a big deal in our house. I think my mom even kept all of my brother's He Man toys (...but not my Barbies - sigh, typical). I was delighted when He Man's twin sister made an appearance: She Ra Princess of Power! She did not get the same respect and fanfare as her brother, but I loved her. We had a pet cat named Battlecat, a giant ride on Battlecat, the castle of Greyskull, and every figurine they made including Stinkor. I'm not sure I ever mentioned this to my father, but Stinkor's stench smelled just like his cologne. Halloween was a no brainer...

It is fun being able to share this fine programming with our children now. Jake loves the show, and every time I hear Grace shout, "By the power of 'race cars', I have the power!" I am flooded with warm memories of days gone by. As a parent, I appreciate the closing moments of each episode which include life lessons. After rescuing Orko from the evil Skeletor, and causing Teela to roll her eyes yet again, Prince Adam turns to the camera and reminds us, "Remember boys and girls, don't take candy from strangers!" or something else totally irrelevant and yet profound. Long live He Man and She Ra!

P.S. For a fun flashback, view this award winning music video courtesy of you tube. It is a clip from the movie where He Man and She Ra meet. Don't forget the kleenex.

I don't really know what to say.

Um...still thinking.

Um...gosh, this is hard.

Now I know how you feel when I start singing the theme song from California Dreams.

I never really watched them. I remember it being on, but I guess I was too busy watching Gem and the Holograms. I'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention Gem. Synergie, unite!

That picture of you and your brother looks just like Jake and Grace!!!! Identical!!! It's crazy! You should frame it. I love it.

I liked California Dreams.

Also, I too was Jem fan. (Jem, Jem is outrageous, oooh, Jem, Jem is contagious.) As though preparing myself for the miraculous dvr, I was good at staggering my tv watching.

Maybe your brother watched he man. I'm sorry you missed out. You can borrow the dvd.

Oh, the He-man and She-Ra memories! You guys were so cute that Halloween!

Honestly, I'm gonna sound "old" here, but they don't make 'em like they used to! Cartoons with bad guys who aren't all that bad, no potty humor, no innuendo and (gasp) morals??

Long live Eternia!

Your whole blog is a flashback to the 80's. He-Man, The Cure,Are you missing them? AAAAHHHH, it's okay Christie, You're still a young spring chicken!

I loved He-Man, although Skeletor really freaked me out and that thunder sound everytime he changed over.....now that was some good television. Those pictures are great!

Oh Robyn, if you have any kind of fire wall or Norton, you have to give it permission to play the music in order to hear it! Usually a little pop-up blocker will come up when you travel to this "dangerous" web page and you can just click it and you'll hear it. I love the tunes Christie, keep them coming. I vote for a nice Reggae/Beach tune next! Something to get you in the mood for summer. Just saying.....doesn't mean you have to listen.

She Ra ROCKS! Is that the one that they said "I have the POWER...". So great.

And, GEM! I completely forgot about those shows. My sister and I loved them.
