It is really hard to let your baby cry himself to sleep.

I know. But it is a necessary part of growing up (his, not yours). Child must learn that Mom is a person and has a life and must sleep. Child must learn to rely on his/her own resources to put himself/herself to sleep. All too soon, child will use this lesson to rely on his/her own resources to get into lots and lots of mischief. Child suffers no permanent, scarring harm by crying self to sleep.
Trust me.

Mom of Two Who, After Many Years, Display No Scarring, Although Their Favorite Things to Do Are Sleeping and Eating (learned in infancy)
Oh stop it. If you don't do something soon, instead of listening him cry you will be listening to a nurse saying Here is your medication Mrs. Hobson, can I get you some applesauce?
I KNOW SISTER! I feel your pain. I still remember crying when I was pacing the hallways listening to Makena, and wanting so very much to just rush in and pick her up!
BUT.....Now, she goes down EVERY NIGHT, like a champ and hardly ever cries or anything! It's worth it.
Leave the house and let Matt listen if you have to. Just don't give up! Hang in there.
