So Grace has recovered from her mild cold extended illness. Thanks for all the warm wishes for her health. Considering the swine flu outbreak, we are glad things did not escalate.
Speaking of swines, I wanted to share some details from Jake's Pinewood Derby. The Pinewood Derby is a boy scout activity where the boys hand pieces of wood over to their dads, and those fathers carve JPL-worthy vehicles out of them. It is the boys scouts duty to leave the fathers alone while they work.
We went against the grain, and had the kids actually work on their cars. They worked on them with Grandpa, which made it very special. Jake made a cheese/mouse car. He won the trophy for best design!
Grace really wanted a trophy too.
She made a pig car. Sadly, Grace refused to put ears on the pig. I begged and pleaded with her, but she was insistent.
So Grace ended up with a car that looks like ...
... a pig with no ears.
What?

I love their cars. Way to get your kids to do their own cars! I wish Grace could've won a trophy. She deserved it! What a fun event! Jake looks so grown up. What a handsome boy. I can't wait for scouts. Really. I'm so excited. Really.

You forgot to mention that Grace won a medal for her entry in the "friends and family" division....AND that the pig car was one of the fastest there - even with only three wheels!

We saw your little boy scouts and the wannabe (Matt, not Gracie) at Ralphs yesterday. They were all business pushing those scout-o-rama books. I couldn't resist. Do you know how many buy one get one free coupons there are in those things?Awesome!
Jay is insisting that our boy do baseball instead of scouts because people are feeding him lies about how once you commit to volunteering, they have you for LIFE!!! It's not that bad, right Matt?We'll see how it turns out.
