Kindergarten!

Well, Jake started Kindergarten! I can't believe he is enrolled in elementary school already. On Tuesday Jake and I went to his classroom for about two hours as sort of a meet and greet with the teacher. She is very nice and welcoming. We can see a little crush developing, as Jake considers her to be, "very, really, really nice." Hmmmm, she is also young and very cute, and Matt is banned from all conferences. Anyway, Jake loves to play with the pattern blocks and, of course, enjoys recess. He told us that one girl who sits at his table was crying because she missed her mommy, and he was trying to help her feel better. So sweet! We are glad that he is making friends and enjoying school. He looks forward to going each day (I know, it has only been 3 days!) for which we are thankful. And, yes, I did shed some tears after dropping him off for his first day. It was so strange watching him walk to his classroom and not knowing what he was doing throughout the day. Matt and I have been vigilant about asking him very specific questions so he cannot tell us that he did "nothing" all day. Today he announced, "I am used to Kindergarten now." Well, then.

Here are some pics from his first day...

So grown up! (Waaaaaaahh!)

Working on his first project, a hand inspired by the story The Kissing Hand. These were then tied to the students backpacks so they would be reminded of how much their parents loved them. I wanted a hand to tie to my purse, but those were not provided.

Okay, so I know this is bragging, but that it what the blog is for. During the parent presentation on Tuesday, the kids were permitted to play, color, etc. while the teacher spoke. During her speech I heard a very loud voice from the back of the class talking about dinosaurs. Sure enough, I turn around and there is Jake reading a book to a classmate. Ha! I was so proud!

Oh my gosh. I just shed a tear. I love the picture of him walking with his Batman backpack all empty and waiting to be filled up. How cute! I can't believe he goes to school. I remember the first time I met him was when I was doing grant research, revamping the Extended Day program, answering about one phone call a day, reading People, balancing my checkbook, and going on Mrs. Angioli's computer to surf the web when she was out of the office. Anyways, I remember that day like it was yesterday.

You walked in in a red, almost burgundy (I think you still have it so you can verify the hue), tank top with jean shorts and a good tan (you had just returned from your honeymoon), and in came the most polite little boy I've ever met. His hair was neatly combed and he was carrying some sort of toy. He was so polite and friendly to me, which is more than I can say for his mother. Ha ha!!!! Just kidding! I don't think our friendship had blossomed yet. I was always intimidated by you after the whole award ceremony when Mrs. de Avila talked about how she found you at some pizza parlor in Lake Forest.

Anyways, back to Jake. He was so young and now look at him! A young lad on his way to success in the real world! Oh my gosh! I can't believe Trent will be there soon. Where does the time go? Where has it already gone? Today at the gym I had to run to my treadmill before anyone could see my red eyes crying after I left him in the Kid's Club. He was crying, okay? It was very hard until I freaking went crazy at 6.5 for 3 miles! Whoo!!! Yeah!!! Watch out baby!!!! Ooh!! Yesiree! W
Perhaps I should stop writing a novel on someone else's blog and go enjoy what little time left I have with my baby before he enters grade school. Wahhh!

Wow. I need to get my own blog.

I still have the tank top! It is more of a rustic red color. Hue. Also, I was traumatized when you and Sarah said you thought I was a *insert bad name here* the first time you met me. Now I try to be overly friendly, and people probably think I am a lunatic. Thanks, friend.

Also, PLEASE get a blog. I love your comments on mine, so keep commenting, but I also want to be kept abreast on the Miner Family Saga.

I love the picture of Jake walking off to school! So "grown-up"!

And yes, it is a little sad when they take off for school, (at least at this age - you'll be JUMPING FOR JOY in about 10 years...)
but it IS NICE to have a little more peace and quiet for a time during the day!

(Lets be honest - one of Jake's "superpowers" is the ability to talk, and talk, and talk, and talk...hmm...gee...where to you think he inherited that trait???)

And Robyn! Puh-leeze! Where is the blog? Honestly! I so enjoy reading your comments!

Dad wants to know if there were other parents trailing/stalking their children down the street and into the classroom with cameras...

Actually, there was some mention of hiding in their backpacks or pretending to be school staff and stopping by the classroom. Just because you two couldn't wait to get rid of me, does not mean all parents feel that way. Humph.

So you must have seen that picture I've kept hidden of you walking out the door for your first day of Kindergarten with the imprint of my shoe on your behind...the cats out of the bag...

I did, Mom. Didn't I take the OCTA bus to school that day?

I thought Ryan took the OCTA bus, and you were the one that we had stand on the corner with their thumb out to hitch a ride....I guess I'm getting old and don't remember things too clearly...

Oh no...public transportation, shoe imprints on the back of your backpack? Mel, I'm sorry Christie was such a handful. I wish I could've been around to help...P.S. I finally have a blog!! Aren't you proud of me?

~~~ WOOHOO! YAY ROBYN! ~~~
Oh, that must be weird for you. They grow up so fast. At least you have more time to yourself. Oh wait, you still have Grace. Okay, well at least you and Grace can spend more time together. It's probably easier running errands with just one child.
Robyn said you were going to post your pictures from you girls night out. I think you should . You look so good in those pictures. You all do! Next time you girls do that, I'm coming.
Consider explaining to him how bad life will get down the road, so that now he finds more value in stacking blocks and counting to ten.
